In May of 2003, after four
consecutive years at American University in Washington DC, David Cahill
graduated, cum laude, with a B.A. in
Communications: Visual Media and a
minor in Performing Arts: Theatre.
Since graduating, Cahill is currently pursuing the dual venues of his
degree. He is a professionally trained,
working actor in the D.C. / Baltimore area, as well as a freelance multimedia
designer and editor.
David studied the acting techniques of Stanislavski, Stella
Adler, and Meisner, several classical and contemporary plays, the mechanisms of
proper speech and voice, audition techniques, and playwriting. In addition to his theatre training at
American University, David has studied at NYU, Tisch School of the Arts:
Stonestreet Film, and Television Workshop and at TVI: Actor’s Studio in Los
Angeles.
David’s multimedia
qualifications include non-linear video/film editing, graphic web design and
web maintenance, screenwriting, basic DVD authoring, and basic skills as a DP
and director for video and television (Mini-DV/Beta).
He is equally passionate and
dedicated to both fields.
David Cahill first pursued acting at age 12 while attending
the International School of Prague, Czech Republic. His first film experience came shortly after with Cabin Fever
Entertainment’s production of A Young Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's
Court (1995). David was cast as
Clarence, a principal role/supporting actor opposite Michael York, Theresa
Russell, and Nick Mancuso. Please note
that he is credited as David Shaeffer in this film. David changed his last name from Shaeffer to Cahill during his
first year of college.
David returned to the Washington, DC area for his high
school education. He attended Bishop
Denis J. O’Connell High School, where he continued to perform in theatre and
musical theatre productions, and graduated, with honors, in 1999.
While attending American University, David performed in
productions of The Glass Menagerie (Tom Wingfield), A Midsummer
Night's Dream (Demetrius) and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (RP
McMurphy), for which he received an Irene Ryan Award nomination for Best
Collegiate Actor.
Immediately after graduation, David became heavily involved
with fledgling theatre company, Firebelly Productions. He appeared in Firebelly's Butterflies
Are Free (Don Baker), Of Mice and Men (George Milton) and Lend Me
a Tenor (Tito Merelli).
Initially hired as an actor, David realized an opportunity
to utilize both his passions. In
addition to being a rep member of the company, David currently works as
Multimedia Director of Firebelly Productions.
He is responsible for the company’s website maintenance, promotional
videos, press releases, and publicity materials. He also helps author and produce Firebelly’s newsletter, and
cover letters for various grant applications.
Other
professional productions include Oscar and Adonis (Oscar Wilde), and Dead
Poets (Christopher Marlowe) at the DCAC.
David also was cast as the principal role in Waking Dave, a short
film produced by professionals and students at the American Film Institute’s
Summer Workshop. |
